From Court to Skate Park: How SMS Movement Builds Strong, Resilient Young Athletes
Strength, Skill, Success - Built From the Ground Up:
When performance meets purpose, you get something special. That’s exactly what SMS Movement is on the Sunshine Coast - a performance coaching studio where sport, strength, and young athletes intersect in a meaningful way.
A Little About Them:
SMS Movement is led by Steve Sheely, a Sport and Exercise Scientist and a certified Strength & Conditioning Coach. Over the years, he’s worked with teams like Sunshine Coast Lightning and Falcons Rugby League to fine tune athletic performance.
They specialise in long-term athlete development (LTAD) with a focus on netballers and skateboarders between roughly ages 10 to 17. Their programs combine strength, agility, coordination, injury prevention, and sport-specific movement work.
From one-on-one coaching to small group performance sessions, they design training that grows with the athlete - not too fast, not too slow - but just right.
What Sets Them Apart:
Evidence-based and tailored
Many places offer strength training, but SMS Movement layers sport science into every plan. Steve develops specific KPI metrics, assesses movement, and aligns each program to the athlete’s sport and growth stage.Sport-specific focus
Instead of a one-size-fits-all gym program, their training is tuned to netball and skateboarding - two sports with very different demands. That helps athletes see carry-over to their game or board faster.Holistic growth mindset
They don’t just train bodies - they aim to grow confidence, body awareness, and movement literacy. SMS Movement is as much about setting an athlete up for long-term success as getting short-term gains.Flexible offerings for different needs
Whether you want one-off sessions, ongoing packages, or a group performance program, SMS Movement has options.Strong testimonials and results
